Women Building Better Communities

The Junior League of Greater Lakeland is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

Welcome to The Junior League of
Greater Lakeland®

We are an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The Junior League is exclusively educational and charitable.

A Message From Our President

Hear from Maggie Briggs, The League's 2022-2023 acting President, on her vision, mission and goals.

The League has a long history of fulfilling our mission – to promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women, and improve our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. This year, the league will focus on empowerment, with our members and the community, in an effort to positively impact the heads, hearts, and homes, of the children of Polk county.

Community Impact

The Junior League of Greater Lakeland invests thousands of volunteer hours in community projects and programs that align to our Mission and further the League’s impact in our community. Learn about how the Junior League directly impacts our community. Our outreach programs are designed to provide maximum benefit to our communities through our League volunteers, community partnerships and direct financial support.

Reading is Fundamental

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) is a national book distribution program that is exclusively funded by the Junior League of Greater Lakeland. This program continues to distribute books to children with the greatest need in schools in the Lakeland area.

World of Reading

The World of Reading event is one of the League’s signature programs that focus on school readiness and family literacy. It’s hosted annually in April at Barnett Family Park and is a free public event featuring authors signing their books, crafts, and lots of family-friendly activities.

Ready To Read

Ready to Read is a JLGL initiative designed to support the literacy-related needs of one school in the community each year. This school is selected based on the academic performance and economic needs of the majority of the school’s students and the school’s improvement plan.
