Women Building Better Communities

The Junior League of Greater Lakeland, Inc. is committed to promoting overall wellness of body, mind, and spirit for women and children in our community.

Welcome to The Junior League of
Greater Lakeland®

We are an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The Junior League is exclusively educational and charitable.

A Message From Our President

Hear from Dr. Lauren Albaum, The League's 2020-2021 acting President, on her vision, mission and goals.

The League has a long history of fulfilling our mission – to promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women, and improve our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. This year, the league will focus on engagement, with our members and the community, in an effort to positively impact the heads, hearts, and homes, of the children of Polk county.

Community Impact

The Junior League of Greater Lakeland invests thousands of volunteer hours in community projects and programs that align to our Mission and further the League’s impact in our community. Learn about how the Junior League directly impacts our community. Our outreach programs are designed to provide maximum benefit to our communities through our League volunteers, community partnerships and direct financial support.

Reading is Fundamental

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) is a national book distribution program that is exclusively funded by the Junior League of Greater Lakeland. This program continues to distribute books to children with the greatest need in schools in the Lakeland area.

World of Reading

The World of Reading event is one the League’s signature programs that focuses on school readiness and family literacy. It’s hosted annually in April at Barnett Family Park and is a free public event featuring authors signing their books, crafts and lots of family friendly activities. The 2021 Event is being hosted as a socially distant drive-through in the parking lot of First United Methodist Church on Lake Morton.

Ready To Read

Ready to Read is a JLGL initiative designed to support the literacy related needs of one school in the community each year. This school is selected based on the academic performance and economic need of the majority of the school’s students and the school’s improvement plan.

Kimberly Elmhorst

There’s an expression that you sometimes hear about a person, that they are as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside.  That expression certainly characterizes Kimberly (Kim) Elmhorst, and apparently it is a sentiment shared about her by many in Lakeland, especially her Jr. League colleagues.  Calm and kind and quick with a smile […]
