Ready to Read is a Junior League of Greater Lakeland initiative designed to support the literacy needs of one school in the community each year. This school is selected based on the academic performance and economic need of the majority of the school’s students and the school’s improvement plan. Ready to Read is committed to providing mini-grants to teachers for literacy related activities and supplies and literacy centered school-wide activities, which includes parental participation. This program enhances school readiness and family literacy. Ready To Read’s efforts are supportive of the school’s accountability and improvement plans. Programs and events will support teacher education/training, parent literacy nights, teacher mini-grants and school-wide projects focusing on literacy.
