More about our mission:

Thousands of children within Polk County are in need of clean clothes and supplies. Did you know that 1 in 5 children who reside in Polk County live in a household that struggles to put food on the table and clothes on their backs? You might be surprised to learn that poverty impacts children at every public school – this includes your neighborhood school! These are children that live on your street, or just around the corner. Are you be compelled to join the mission of Junior League of Greater Lakeland in meeting this critical need to align with your personal philanthropic mission?

In 2022 the Junior League of Greater Lakeland raised more than $145,000 during the Black Diamond Ball in support of our mission to create awareness of issues that affect women’s and children’s wellness within Polk County. Last year more than 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies went into the hands of children in our community who need it most. That’s more than 7,250 items of clothing filling the Clothes Closet at Tenoroc High School, which provides new clothing items to high school students, along with toiletries and snacks, free of charge.

That’s helping thousands of children in our community feel confident and ready to learn when they come to school. And that’s through the generous support of individuals like you.

FACT: $50.00 = One (1) fully stocked backpack that will be placed in the hands of a family in need.

The Junior League of Greater Lakeland has made the children of Polk County a priority.  We are raising awareness of the impacts of poverty on local children and inviting our community to support our schools which oftentimes, are the ones best positioned to go beyond education and feed, care, and build the self-esteem of children during the day.

With great appreciation for your personal philanthropy, the Junior League of Greater Lakeland will steward these resources and funds by working with community partners and the Polk County School system directly. Our goal is to pack at least 500 backpacks to be distributed to our local children in 2024.
